I'm baaaack.
I haven’t posted on my tumblr for a long time. I guess I forgot about it and got distracted with twitter and Facebook. Using the iPhone app on my iPad. Hoping to see an official iPad app soon.

iPhone and Starbucks, two of my favorite things
With Starbuck’s recent decision to move from T-Mobile to AT&T for wireless access, will they soon be providing free usage for iPhone users in their nifty little coffee shops? Let’s hope so.
Three Mac tips I uncovered this weekend
I upgraded to Leopard this weekend on my work machine, a MacBook Pro. It was a seamless upgrade. I had already upgraded my home machine, a Mac Pro, several weeks ago and that went fine too. I have been enjoying some of the new features in Leopard, mostly spaces, quickview, and stacks. Time Machine is really slick too, but I am just figuring out how it works alongside SuperDuper, my backup program...

…and if you watch closely, you will even see glimpses of Sprocket the dog! (One of the inspirations for the name I gave my dog…)

Garmin and native Mac support
I am really happy about the recent announcement at Macworld that Garmin will provide better native support for the Mac. Being both a Garmin and Mac fan, I am looking forward to this.

The top 5 innovations over the next 5 years
IBM just released its prediction for the top 5 innovations that will change our lives over the next five years. I absolutely love the “know what you eat” one. I joined my first CSA this summer and am really getting into the idea of eating organic, locally grown food. So the idea of knowing about all the food I eat is fantastic. I also really like the one about using a star trek-like...
Snowshoeing!
It’s snowshoeing time again! Sprocket is very excited about this fact. Here’s the full set on flickr.
Cisco "open sources" business ideas
Cisco has created a contest to get ideas for their next business opportunity. Interesting “community source” idea. Nice payoff for the winner.
This is a video slideshow I did last winter of my dog (the yellow lab) playing with one of her best friends Lucky (the golden.) I used Fotomagico and Toast on the Mac to create it. Then I uploaded it to Google video which then gave me the HTML to embed it into this posting on my blog. Pretty easy.
Come and ride with me!
This is unbelievably cool. You can “play back” my mountain bike ride from a few weeks ago on the beta site from MotionBased. Be sure to click on the Satellite view to make it even more real.

An extremely happy dog
Can’t you tell by the smile? I took this back in the summer and dug it out today because it is starting to feel cold up here in the Northeast. The days of kayaking with dog in tow are seeming to be far away. Biggie size.

I settled on Blu-Ray
I finally broke down and bought a Sony PS3 in order to get the blu-ray movie-playing capability. I had been debating for awhile between Blu-Ray and HDDVD, but finally decided to gamble on Blu-Ray. My rationale for buying the PS3 was two-fold: one, it is upgradable through its built-in wireless (probably the only Profile 1.0 player that is upgradeable to 1.1 and hopefully 2.0) and two, selling this...
What is your dog doing while you're not looking?
Want to see what your dog does all day while you are gone? Or which dogs she is forming bonds with at doggie daycare? Being touted as the first social networking solution for dogs, SNIF has come up with this and you can now sign up for the early beta.

Should do this, dot com
I’ve always been a fan of heavily involving customers during product development cycles. After all, you’re building your “product” for them…if you don’t know what they want or how your product is working for them, what is the point?
This is an interesting new way of capturing feedback, whether for a company or a specific product. I especially like the feedback...
Are you left-brain or right-brain dominant?
Interesting test…I am seeing this as a right-brain, but I’ve been tested as a “whole brain” using other tests.

The thinking rock
This might just be the best thinking rock there is. Far enough out to feel somewhat isolated…but close enough to get back pretty quickly…also comes complete with beautiful views of the lake AND a very comfortable built-in back rest. And the notorious Sprocketorious thinks so too (she’s thinking if she sits still long enough, she might blend in and have better luck catching those...
My two latest Audible.com "listens"
I just finished listening to Wikinomics which is all about the new aspects of business collaboration…things like wikis (Wikipedia) and open source development (Linux.) It’s amazing how much of what is covered in this book is what we are focusing on right now inside of the Lotus brand at IBM. Instead of my teams developing content in-house and delivering that content through traditional...

What I did this weekend
Downhilling at Killington, VT. This time, we rented real downhill bikes, which made a ton of difference. Here’s me on the Kona Stinky on a fire road in between trails. Some of the trails were pretty gnarly, but no carnage this trip, thank goodness.
Lotus Symphony
Lotus has announced an ODF-compliant office suite called Lotus Symphony. Remember the original Lotus Symphony? Well, this is the new, more modern, open-standards-based, FREE, version. It’s making news…here is a recent article on CNET.

Lotus Connections Deployment wiki
Lotus Connections has a deployment wiki. Join the development and doc team in building really good deployment information for Connections. And, yes, it was my team at IBM that created this wiki and I am so very proud of them.
Productivity software
It seems that there is more and more focus lately on productivity software. I am a big fan of the Omni* line of products, especially OmniGraffle. I am keeping my eye on their new offering called OmniFocus.
